–No respect for recent tradition: The defending Super Bowl champion Giants (XLVI) became the first title team to lose its first game the following season since the 1999 Broncos, but they were far from the only recent champion to fall. The Packers (XLV), Saints (XLIV), Steelers (XL and XLIII) and Colts (XLI) all lost in Week 1. And since the Giants also captured XLII, a statistical oddity of sorts has the last 7 teams to win the Super Bowl all going down in the same weekend…
–Home teams were 9-7 in Week 1: While the host teams managed a winning record, it was who lost that was surprising. The Packers saw their 13-game home regular-season winning streak end vs. San Francisco and the Saints (9-0 at home in 2011, including playoffs) fell to Washington…
