It’s become a rite of passage in the NFL, so much so that it’s hardly a surprise when it occurs.
Nearly every season, we see a last-place team rise from the ashes to capture a division title.
It used to occur on an annual basis in the NFC South. The last two years in the NFC East, it’s been a rule of thumb. In 2012, the Washington Redskins won a division title the first time since 1999 after a dismal last-place finish in ’11. This past season, the Philadelphia Eagles rebounded from a 4-12 finish to go 10-6 and capture the penthouse in the NFC East.
So which of the eight candidates will pull that off in 2014? It’s only the middle of May but these are not season predictions. Rather, we will try and handicap which of the teams has the best opportunity of making a meteoric rise in 2014.
