The Super Bowl Is Indeed Super
By Russell S. Baxter, Football Guru
There are those of us who remember a time when the game didn’t live up to the name, much less the hype.
But that’s ancient history these days when referring to the Super Bowl, which has become just as entertaining on the field as some would say off it.
In the early days before the merger on the field, the Green Bay Packers had their way with the AFL’s Kansas City Chiefs and then the Oakland Raiders in the first two Super Bowls. Of course, the New York Jets and Chiefs would win games III and IV, respectively.
Prior to major rules changes that started in 1978, Super Bowls were often defensive struggles led by teams with strong ground games, hence the early 1970s and the Dallas Cowboys, Miami Dolphins, those first two Pittsburgh Steelers title teams and more.
