Will it be a quarterback? How about a defensive end? Maybe they’ll pick a linebacker?
The Houston Texans have an interesting choice to make when May 8 rolls around. Thanks to a 2-14 record this past season, the franchise owns the top pick in the 2014 NFL draft.
The draft as we know it today, although the number of rounds has changed, began in 1967 when the NFL and AFL finally agreed to one draft after seven years (1960-66) of conducting their own.
In the history of what is referred to as the common draft (1967-2013), there have been a total of 20 quarterbacks drafted number one overall, including 12 of the last 16 drafts dating back to 1998, the year the Indianapolis Colts made Peyton Manning the first overall selection.
Here, we'll focus on the 27 other picks and the best of those performers. As the fabled Mr. Spock once said, "The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few…er.”
Or something like that.
